Art SUX for Kids

What is Art SUX for Kids?

Founded in 2018, Art SUX for Kids is a non-profit organization aimed at providing low to no-cost art activities for children in Siouxland. Each month, we host engaging and creative classes where children of all ages can explore various projects with guidance and demonstrations, allowing them to create and take home their own artwork. Our mission is to raise funds through private donations, artist contributions, and grants to ensure that every child, regardless of their socioeconomic background, has access to art. Our projects are designed to foster creativity, enhance skills, promote confidence and positivity while being enjoyable. We aspire to make all activities free.

In 2018, a group of passionate artists came together to form Art SUX for Kids, believing that art enriches community culture and improves quality of life. Our initiatives include free art talks by local and national artists, free or affordable art classes for community school children and other non-profit children non-profits, and low-cost art sessions in various techniques. We also host free art shows and exhibits to spark interest in local art and artists. Our goal is to educate Siouxlanders about art in all its forms, from painting to photography to multimedia, and to inspire creativity throughout the region.

Art SUX for Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing art events at little to no cost for all children.

  • Since 2018, Art SUX For Kids has held over 60 events including: chalking the walk, rock painting, tote painting, numerous canvas paintings, learning about artists and their techniques, such as “Painting Like Pollock,” collaging, Farmers Market cookie decorating, looming, painting over 300 pumpkins and so many more!

  • We have collaborated with Downtown Partners, CRUMB. Bakeries, Sioux City Farmers Market and many community members and volunteers. We’d like to continue and grow. These events fill our buckets we enjoy each and every event and working with the kiddos on so many fun events.

Notable Events - Annual & Past

These are some of our most memorable events over the years.

We were absolutely buzzing to kick off our very first official event at the gallery in Suite 105 of the Ho-Chunk building, and guess what? It was open to everyone—yes, even your great-aunt Edna! The excitement was so thick could cut it with a butter knife as Thomas Kleber and Kristin Vo took the reins, turning it into a hilariously unforgettable experience for all!

Since the dawn of Art SUX for Kids, we've been throwing a pumpkin painting bash every year—well, except for that one year we accidentally painted ourselves into a corner! This event attracts the most Picassos of all ages. In our first year at the Art SUX Gallery building, we unleashed over 250 free pumpkins, turning our space into a mini pumpkin patch—who knew art could be so gourd-geous?

Chalk the Walk has got to be the most fun event we do, not to mention the easiest to clean up after.

Cookie Decorating at the Sioux City Farmers Market with CRUMB. Bakeries

Kids get to go wild with their creativity while decorating cookies at the farmers market! This fun-filled event is rapidly turning into an annual event with CRUMB. Bakeries, and we couldn't be more pumped—who knew cookie decorating could be such a blast? It's a day packed with frosting, sprinkles, and a sprinkle of cookie madness that everyone enjoys!

Art Affair

Art Affair is an amazing collaboration with Sioux City Downtown Partners. All proceeds from the event go to Art SUX for Kids Foundation. It helps us buy the supplies we need and to keep events free for Siouxland children.

Paint Like Pollack

This was our first ever event for teens. We discussed Jackson Pollack, his life and art. The teens painted using Pollack techniques and then a huge Pollack inspired painting as a group! The result of this event can be seen between the main gallery and CRUMB. Bakeries store.
