ann marie mctaggart

Artist Ann Marie McTaggart is an experimental painter whose work is centered upon the spiritual and intrinsic self. A former oncology RN, Ann began her journey back to academic art studies in the 90s. Since that time she has shown in both juried and solo shows throughout the Midwest.

Most of her exhibitions have been in Minnesota, Illinois, South Dakota, New York, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Ann is currently showing at Gallery 103 and Sux Artists Gallery in downtown Sioux City, Iowa.

Ann attempts to give to the inanimate object of the canvas a vitality and a message. her usual icon is the bird form. as an artist, she has found that the bird image symbolizes a true spirituality.

Along with her bird images she has recently begun to journey into the world of the pierrot mimes, theatrical actors which were common in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th Century. As an artist, ann finds these characters to be both mysterious and spiritual.  Although these mimes are classified as clowns they possess an unusual entity all to themselves. They could be anyone of us, male or female, young or old.

There are many issues that both celebrate and identify our human persona. We are all assimilations of our relationships and situations. For Her, life has been a journey of enlightenment, both as a nurse and an artist. Her only hope to present through her art is a realism which is honest and can be shared by both the viewer and herself.
